A cholera epidemic breaks out, drought blights the land and herds of thirst-maddened elephants devastate the plantation in a thundering stampede. The palatial "bungalow" is reduced to rubble as onrushing elephants pound across polished floors, rip walls from their foundations and knock over kerosene drums to ignite a terrifying inferno.

"Possum Magic," (0152632247) written and narrated by Mem Fox, tells the magical story of an invisible possum named Hush and his grandmother as they eat their way around Australia in an attempt to make Hush visible and Lois Ehlert's "Planting a Rainbow" celebrates the colorful flowers of the garden. Bonus story "Brave Irene" by William Steig tells the story of a young girl's resolve to make an important journey in spite of a terrible storm and Miriam Cohen's "Will I Have a Friend" details the fears and triumphs of a young child on his first day of school.
